Why such an in depth fit for spinning?

One of the most common things that we hear from our clients who come in for spin shoes is, "why do I need a fitting—can't you just install the cleats and we'll call it a day?" While we could, we would never want to, and once you have a cleat fitting you will realize why you would never want to either!

Here's why:

The goal of a good fit is to accommodate your body. Doesn't matter if you are riding for the first time on a hybrid, or if you're a professional looking to win the Tour de France; being fit properly is paramount. During a spin fitting we take into account how your body is aligned, from your feet upwards. Everyone is slightly different, and if the cleats are not set up to support how your individual body is, then you are placing stresses on your joints that often lead to discomfort and injury. In addition, many shoes do not come with proper insoles as many consumers are not educated as to why they are important and just don't see the value. That is until they feel how much a difference having the proper support makes. Most spinners can really benefit from a proper insole, whether off the rack or custom-made.

The second part is the cleat itself, as that dictates how your foot (and everything connected to it) interfaces with the bike. For example, its common to have feet that are lower on the outside than on the inside. Very few people have feet that point straight forward; some rotate in, some out, and more often than not it is different on each foot. By setting up your cleats so that your foot, ankle, knee, and hip are in a neutral position and not being forced into one that stresses your joints, you are going to produce more power through greater efficiency and greatly reduce the chance of injury. Ultimately, this will allow you to do more of what you love.

Finally, we include a coaching element to the spin fit. Unlike golf or tennis, we are able to teach you the technique to master proper pedaling form in a rather short period of time. How to utilize the key muscle groups during each segment of the pedal stroke and how to set up the rest of your body to produce the most power and reduce the risk of injury. So you will burn more calories, have more toned muscles, and avoid injuries that can keep you off the bike.
